Terms of Service
Last updated 2026-07-01. By creating an account or playing Band of Rudders, you agree to these terms.
Acceptance
By creating an account or playing Band of Rudders ("the game"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the game.
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date, and continued play after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Eligibility
You must be old enough to form a binding agreement where you live (and at least 13 years old) to hold an account. If you are under the age of majority in your region, you should only play with a parent or guardian's permission.
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account.
Accounts — one per player
Each player may hold a single account. Creating or using additional or duplicate accounts ("alts") is not allowed, whether to gain an in-game advantage, evade a ban or restriction, manipulate votes, elections, markets, leaderboards, or realm politics, or otherwise circumvent these terms.
To help enforce this and to keep the game fair, we log basic technical information such as the IP address a session connects from. Accounts that appear to be operated by the same person may be actioned together.
Accounts are personal. You may not sell, buy, rent, share, gift, or transfer an account, and you may not trade accounts or in-game items, standing, or currency for real-world money or anything of value.
Fair play & conduct
The game is meant to be played through its normal interface. You agree not to:
• cheat, exploit bugs, or use any script, bot, macro, automation, or third-party tool to play, gather data, or gain an advantage;
• attempt to access, disrupt, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the game's servers, network, or other players' accounts or data;
• harass, threaten, impersonate, defame, or abuse other players or staff, or post unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit content in names, chat, forums, messages, or profiles;
• spam, advertise, phish, or attempt to defraud other players.
In-character rivalry, piracy, war, deception, and hard bargaining are part of the game and are fine; the rules above are about real-world abuse and cheating, not in-world roleplay.
The game world & virtual items
Ships, gold, cargo, fame, titles, ports, and every other in-game item or status are part of a game. They have no real-world or monetary value, are licensed to you for play (not owned by you), and cannot be redeemed for cash.
This is a persistent, evolving world. We may add, change, rebalance, reset, wipe, or remove any part of the game — including your progress and items — at any time, for example to fix exploits, rebalance the economy, or start a new season.
Suspension & termination
We may suspend, restrict, ban, kick, or delete any account at our discretion, with or without notice, including for breaking these terms or for conduct we consider harmful to the game or its players.
You may stop playing at any time. If you want your account removed, contact us at the address below.
Data & email
To run the game we store the information you provide (such as your username and email address) and technical information about your play (such as IP addresses and activity), which we use to operate the game, verify accounts, provide support, and enforce these terms and fair play.
We send account emails, such as verification links. We do not sell your personal information. We show no third-party advertising in the game.
No warranty & limitation of liability
The game is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any progress or data will be preserved.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Band of Rudders team is not liable for any loss of data, progress, virtual items, or profits, or for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the game.
